Cooking ClassesRussian cuisine embraces a melting pot of cultural, ethnic and geographic influences and offers a rich diversity – highlighting fresh vegetables, fish, poultry, game, beef and fruits, honey and breads.

Come join us at SSt. Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church each second Saturday of the month and
experience the delights of this tantalizing cuisine. Each month we will demonstrate a seasonal menu where the participants will learn the techniques of making these traditional recipes and then enjoy a flavorful and abundant lunch.

This month’s feature Menu (Lenten friendly):

  • Byelorussian Sauerkraut Soup
  • Mushroom Vareniki (Dumplings)
  • Shellfish Plov (Pilaf)
  • Kozinaki (Walnut/Honey Dessert)

2013 Pan-Orthodox Lenten Vespers Schedule

On Sunday, March 24, 2013, we begin again the series of Lenten Vespers in Buffalo Metropolitan Area. This beautiful tradition has bee established a few years ago and consists of celebrating Sunday Lenten Vespers in number of Christian Orthodox Churches (see the schedule bellow) followed by a modest Lenten meal during which a presentation is made on various topics. This year’s theme for the presentations is Old Testament readings/books used in Orthodox Church during the time of Great Fast/Lent.

Pan-Orthodox Choir under the direction of Fr. Rastko Trbuhovich leads the congregation in prayerful signing during the Lenten Vespers.

Presentation: Guatemala Mission – Faith In Practice

Subdeacon Dr. Mark Hoeplinger will give a slide presentation during coffee hour on January 20th showing oversea medical/dental missions he and his wife Dr. Christine have done in Africa, Peru and Guatemala.  They will soon depart for Guatemala again, this time accompanied by Fr. Vlad, who will be Spiritual advisor to the group of 36 doctors and health care workers there.  You will see what we do on these life saving Orthodox missions, children we have helped-especially how we restore the hearing of the deaf children.  We feel that by serving the poor, we serve The Lord!

Please consider staying for the coffee hour and Dr. Mark’s presentation after Divine Liturgy on Sunday, January 20th.

Effective December 1st, 2012, Very Reverend Father Herman Schick, has been attached to our parish. Father Herman is on Medical Leave of Absence and until now he served as Rector of Saint George Orthodox Church, Buffalo NY.

We welcome Father Herman to our parish family and extend our best wishes to him, Matushka Cynthia and their son George.

We know that our parish will be greatly blessed by their presence and we ask every one for continued prayer for Father Herman and his family.

Christmas Bake Sale, Gift Basket Raffle and Spaghetti Dinner

On Sunday, December 16, Saint’s Peter and Paul Orthodox Church will host Christmas Bake Sale, Gift Basket Raffle and Spaghetti Dinner.

Christmas Bake Sale

Variety of Christmas cookies and cakes will be available for sale to make your preparation for Christmas a little easier.

Gift Basket Raffle

Variety of gift baskets will be raffled out at the end of the event.

Main prize – Handmade King Size Crochet Blanket (Blue & White) (a $250 value!) $2.00/ticket

In addition there will be few crafters selling their products.

The Most Blessed Tikhon, Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada

Yesterday in Parma, OH at the 17th All American Council new Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All American and Canada was elected to lead the Orthodox Church in America. Our parish was represented at the 17th All American Council by Fr. Volodymyr Zablotsky and Martin Napierski.

The biography of His Beatitued Tikhon can be found on the official website of the Orthodox Church in America, as well as more detailed information about the proceedings of the election along with two photo galleries from the 17th All American Council.
